“El Sabor de México Sur” Nov. 9 @ Oxnard College
Oxnard College Ballet Folklórico Mestizo and the Mixteco Project Present
Dance Performance:
“El Sabor de México Sur,” “A Taste of Southern Mexico”
Saturday, November 9 at 6 p.m.
Oxnard College Performing Arts
Tickets: $15 general admission; $10 Children (5-12)
Oxnard College’s Ballet Folklórico Mestizo will host a special dance performance to raise funds for the Mixteco/Indigena Community Organizing Project (MICOP). The evening will feature dances from Southern Mexico by Ballet Folklórico Mestizo and the traditional dance of the Chinas Oaxaqueñas from the Mixteco Project and Nuu Savi of Oxnard. The Ballet Folklórico Nueva Antequera of Los Angeles will perform for the first time in Oxnard.
All funds raised from the evening will support the work of MICOP to build a strong, healthy indigenous community and to advocate for justice, access, and inclusion in Ventura County and beyond. MICOP trains leaders and provides support to Ventura County’s 20,000 Mixtec and indigenous immigrants, the majority of whom work in Oxnard’s strawberry industry. Programs include education and literacy, leadership development and community organizing, promoting health and strengthening families, increasing access, and preserving and celebrating indigenous culture. A portion of the funds will also go to support the families who were victims of the fire in Oxnard earlier this month.
Tickets are available by calling the MICOP office at 805.483.1166, or online at MICOP.brownpapertickets.com For more information, go to www.mixteco.org.

The Gender Equity Task Force's Virtual March for Gender Equity
The Gender Equity Task Force's
Virtual March for Gender Equity
The ABA Gender Equity Task Force needs your organization's
participation and promotion of our virtual march for gender equity.
How You Can Help:
Participating
is as simple as clicking your heels three times. Click here to the link to the website.
Click the vote button next to the red shoes and click the
submit button. Then you have "Clicked" your heels for gender
equity.
Why is this important and what is the point?
The visual of hundreds of thousands of people descending on
the steps of the Lincoln Memorial and the sea of people coming together for the
March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom in 1963 has become an iconic
representation of people standing in concert to effect change. While nothing can ever replace the
historic transcendence of that day, in this new millennium a virtual voice
carries the same power and ability to effect change as a physical presence.
Like in 1963, people of today still struggle with the
ability to be treated equally in the work place. What is gender equity? It is equal pay for equal work. It is paternity leave without
stigma. It is flexible time to
meet personal and family needs, while still being able to participate and make a productive
contribution to the work place. It
is the recognition of the differences between men and women
without diminishing the value and contribution each provide. In a word, it is "fairness."
March with us starting on Equal Pay Day on April 9th through
the ABA's Day of the Woman on August 10th 2013.
the ABA's Day of the Woman on August 10th 2013.
Please share this opportunity to "march" for
equality with your friends and colleagues.
