Based on three years of field research and in-depth interviews with young men in Oakland, CA, Rios analyzed how juvenile crime policies and criminalization affect the everyday lives of urban youth. Rios has received numerous awards, including the 2010 New Scholar Award From American Society of Criminology and the 2011 Harold J. Plous award at UCSB.
